The Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has been able to remove the waste of sacrificial animals in Chittagong half an hour before the scheduled time.

CCC Chief Conservancy Officer Commander Latiful Haque Kazmi confirmed the information.

He said: “Although the target was set to clean up the city from sacrificial animal waste by 5pm on Monday, the CCC was able to clean almost all the waste by 4:30pm.”

CCC Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, along with a team from CCC, inspected various areas of the city and declared the completion of the first phase of cleaning at 4:30pm after finding the areas free of sacrificial waste.

The mayor said: “Nearly 4,500 workers worked to clean the city.”

Regarding the hides from the sacrifices, the mayor said: “Our goal is to ensure that the national resource, leather, is not wasted. We have held coordination meetings with leather traders and all related parties for this. We hope that no leather will be wasted this time.”

However, many in Chittagong perform sacrifices in the afternoon and in the evening. Commander Latiful said that this waste would also be cleaned by 8pm.
