Barisal City Corporation (BCC) Mayor Abul Khair Abdullah alias Khokon Serniabat has said that the waste from sacrificial animals will be cleared from the BCC area within 24 hours on Monday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
Measures will be taken to ensure that residents do not experience any inconvenience due to waste, he said.
Mayor Abdullah made the announcement on Sunday while visiting the central Hemayet Uddin Eidgah ground in Barisal city, in response to questions from journalists.
According to the BCC authorities, waste removal will start at 2pm and be completed by 8pm on Monday.
Any sacrifices made on the second and third days of Eid will be managed during regular waste removal operations.
On the day of Eid, approximately 1,000 city corporation sanitation workers will begin cleaning activities.
About 25 trucks will transport the sacrificial waste to the dumping ground and clean the city.
The mayor called for the cooperation of city residents.
Sufficient sacks and bleaching powder have been provided as disinfectants at the ward level.
Sacks have been placed behind walls to ensure that residents dispose of sacrificial waste in designated areas. Additionally, the sacrifice sites can be sterilized with biocide.
The main Eid congregation in Barisal will be held at the central Hemayet Uddin Eidgah ground, which has been specially prepared for the occasion.
CCTV cameras have been installed, and law enforcement officers will be present for security.
Separate electric fans and curtains have been arranged for the comfort of worshippers.
Mayor Abdullah expressed his hope that city residents will celebrate Eid-ul-Azha in a festive atmosphere, observing religious solemnity.
Assistant Cleaning Officer Yusuf Ali said that 220 sites have been designated for animal sacrifices across 30 wards of BCC.
To prevent the spread of sacrificial waste and germs, 500 sacks and 50kg of bleaching powder have been distributed to each ward. Additionally, leaflets and awareness campaigns are being conducted to inform residents.
