A confrontation between two opposing groups of inmates due to previous enmity at Jessore Central Jail injured seven people, including two jail guards.

The clash took place on Friday in the New Jail area of Jessore Central Jail.

After the incident, the prison authorities quickly took control of the situation.

A man named Rakib alias Bhaipo and his rival Samrat engaged in conflict at one point within the prison, in front of the new jail section.

Supporters of the two factions started fighting. At least five individuals were injured. To bring the situation under control, the jail guards went inside after sounding the whistle.

Jessore Central Jail Assistant Surgeon Sajjad Hossain said two prison guards and five-six prisoners have been admitted to the prison hospital. They are safe and healthy.

Senior Jail Superintendent of Jessore central jail Suraiya Akhter said that the incident was minor. However, suddenly, one of their jailers blew an alert whistle. By doing this, the matter takes shape in a big way.

She said: "Basically, Jessore Central Jail currently houses some of the city's most notorious miscreants. There were old disputes between the two groups' members. Disciplinary action will be taken against those involved in the clash as per jail rules.

"Approximately seven or eight people have been recognized by the authorities as probably engaged in the clash. The inmates were placed in different cells and kept under close surveillance," she added.

She also said that there was no attack on the prison guards. They were injured while rushing inside the prison.
