A robbery took place in a moving bus of Abdullah Paribahan near Gogoi flyover of the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway in Tangail's Mirzapur upazila Tuesday afternoon.

A person named Sohail Rana, 28, has been detained in this incident.

In a press conference held at the Gogoi Highway Police Outpost, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Gazipur Highway Region Rajiur Rahman said that five to six robbers boarded the Rajshahi-bound Abdullah Paribahan bus, seizing control of it while in motion. They proceeded to loot passengers, including gold ornaments.

The perpetrators diverted the bus from Elenga in Tangail and redirected it towards Dhaka. Upon receiving an alert via the emergency service number 999, the highway police mobile team attempted to halt the bus. However, it evaded the checkpoint at the Deohata police outpost on the highway, despite warning shots fired by an officer on duty.

Subsequently, the police intercepted the bus near the flyover, detaining one of the robbers.

Naval Police Sub-Inspector Subhash Chandra, who was among the passengers, sustained injuries during a scuffle with the perpetrators and was subsequently transported to Kumudini Medical College Hospital.

Rajiur Rahman further said that the apprehended suspect, Sohail Rana, along with the bus, is currently under police custody, and legal action will be taken accordingly.

Mirzapur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rezaul Karim confirmed that one suspect, along with the bus, is in police custody. The bus driver filed a written complaint at the police station regarding the incident.
