A man was detained while allegedly attempting to flee after snatching a mobile phone and a bag at Mugda Medical College Hospital in the capital.
The detained man was identified as Nazmul Alam Biplob.
Md Najmus Sakib, deputy director (public relations) of Bangladesh Ansar, said on Saturday morning that the incident took place around noon on Friday in front of ICU-1 on the hospital’s sixth floor.
Taking advantage of the crowd of critically ill patients and their relatives, Biplob allegedly attempted to flee with the mobile phone and bag.
An Ansar team led by member Md Zakiul Islam, who was on duty at the hospital, caught him in the act, Sakib said.
A search of the suspect led to the recovery of the stolen mobile phone and bag intact, he added.
The matter was subsequently reported to the hospital authorities. Following their instructions, Biplob was handed over to police at the local police station.
