Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel said that megaprojects bigger than the Padma Bridge should be taken up to resolve challenges in the education sector.
The minister said this in the chief guest's speech at the exchange meeting titled “Building of Smart Bangladesh” with the heads of all the educational institutions of Rajshahi district.
“The challenges we have with our education will be resolved in the future by formulating policies through discussion with the education family,” said Nowfel.
“To do that, we need to undertake mega projects bigger than the Padma Bridge in the education sector,” said the minister, adding: “The project is not just for infrastructure development.”
“We need to improve the quality of life of teachers, for the benefit of students. If we invest in the skills, quality, and experience of teachers, students will benefit more. And if the students benefit, it will be possible to build the dream of a smart Bangladesh that Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has shown and promised,” he said.
The education minister held this exchange meeting with the heads of all the educational institutions of the district at Dr Kaiser Rahman Chowdhury Auditorium of Rajshahi Medical College in the city from evening to 9pm on Tuesday.
He also said: “We are starting our journey through a difficult economic situation. So you have to think beyond the conventional thinking in the journey. We will think about how we can bring education into the universal state framework.”
Meanwhile, the minister highlighted the steps to be taken to develop students as international citizens with skills and qualifications through secular and non-sectarian education infrastructure and said: "We are working to build a smart Bangladesh with our young society."
A student's career path is changing all over the world. Many of the employees of technology-based organizations in the world do not want to see certificates anymore. They want to see the capability, said the education minister.
Changes are coming at work. New job opportunities are also being created. In that case, students should not be tied to textbooks. Work on the skills required to function within socioeconomic realities.
The minister said that the students of the first level institutions in the developed world go to work in restaurants along with their studies. They carry their study along with work.
“We need to develop that mindset in our students,” he added further.
