4 establishments gutted in Rangamati fire

  • Fire broke out around 11:30pm
  • ‘All the tourists are safe’

Four establishments, including two resorts, one dwelling house, and a shop, were gutted in a fire that broke out at Sajek in Baghaichari upazila of Rangamati district early Friday. 

Rangamati Additional Superintendent of Police Maruf Ahmed confirmed the incident. 

He said: "Two resorts were gutted in the fire late at night. But there were no tourists at the resort. The cause of the fire could not be known immediately. "

Abdul Awal, senior assistant superintendent of Baghaichhari Police (Sajek circle), said: “Fire broke out around 11:30pm at Meghchaya resort and spread to the adjacent Foringi resort, a house owned by Bhuban Tripura and a shop.”

On information, police, army, and BGB members rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze after two hours of frantic effort with the help of the local people.

Sajek's Kureghar Resort Manager Joten Tripura said: “The resort and house were destroyed in the fire, causing a loss of Tk20-30 lakh.”

Sajek Cottage Owners Association Vice President Chaithuang Aung Chowdhury Joy said all the tourists are safe.

However, the extent of the losses caused by the fire could not be determined yet.
