A ninth grader student was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Sitapahar Marmapara of Raikhali union no 2 in Kaptai upazila of Rangamati district on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Ongshehla Marma, 14, son of Mongpulu Marma and a class IX student of Bengalhalia High School.
Md Salim, UP member of ward No 1, said that the attack incident took place around 5pm.
He said that the student was attacked by a wild elephant while bringing back cattle to his house from the field.
Ongshehla Marma died on the spot after being attacked by the elephant, said the UP member.
Ansarul Karim, officer-in-charge of Chandraghona police station, confirmed the death.
"We have heard the news and a team of police is going to the spot,” said the OC.
