A man hailing from Kushtia has gotten married seven times to fulfil a vow (mannat) taken by his mother, and he now apparently lives happily with all of his wives in the same house.
Rajibul Islam, 39, who had spent 15 years in Libya before returning home two years ago, took three wives in the last three months.
His first marriage came in 1999 while he was living in Libya.
Rajibul’s seven wives are Rubina Khatun, 35, Mita Akter, 25, Helena Khatun, 30, Nurun Nahar, 25, Sapna, 30, Banu Akhter, 35, and Rita Akhter, 20.
He has two sons with Rubina, his first wife. In 2014, he married Helena, with whom he has a son and a daughter. He married Nahar in 2020 during the Covid pandemic; they have a daughter together. In 2022, he married Sapna. Rajibul married Banu three months ago, Rita two and a half months ago and Mita two months ago.
Rabijul said: “I am the only son of my parents. I had an ailment… My mother once vowed to get me married seven times if I survived. So I married seven times to fulfill my mother's vow. My family, relatives, locals and I are all happy about it.
“All seven of my wives are very good; they never quarrel with each other.”
Rabijul owns and operates a driving school in the area.
His wives said they are like seven sisters. They do household work together, and everyone gets along extremely well with each other.
