Two CCTV cameras were stolen from a polling station in the Kushtia-2 (Bheramara–Mirpur) constituency ahead of voting.

The theft occurred at the Naopara Government Primary School polling centre in Ward No 8 of Mirpur Municipality.

Presiding Officer Ziaur Rahman said two new CCTV cameras have since been installed. “The situation is fairly calm now. There are no problems at the moment,” he said.

Preparations for voting were under way on Wednesday afternoon, with polling booths being set up at the centre.

According to officials, miscreants entered the school at some point on Monday night and stole the two cameras. The authorities came to know about the incident on Tuesday morning and informed the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and the Assistant Returning Officer.

A general diary (GD) has been filed with Mirpur Police Station in connection with the incident.
