23 sacks of cash, gold found in donation boxes of Kishoreganj's Pagla Mosque

The authorities of Kishoreganj's historical Pagla Mosque have collected 23 sacks of cash and gold ornaments from nine donation boxes.

The donation boxes were opened on Saturday morning after three months and 20 days. 

The process of counting the money found in the donation boxes is underway. 

More than 150 students of Pagla mosque madrasah, several members of the mosque started counting the cash under the supervision of Abul Kalam Azad, deputy commissioner of Kishoreganj,Mohammad Rasel Sheikh, superintendent of the district police and additional deputy commissioner ATM Farhad Chowdhury.

The money counting was still going on until the filing of this report.

The donation boxes were opened around 7:30am with the presence of DC, SP and others concerned officials.

DC Abul Kalam Azad said that there were eight donation boxes in Pagla Mosque. A new box was added recently due to the increase in the amount of donations.

Foreign currencies and gold ornaments were also recovered from the boxes, said the DC. 

Earlier in August, the historic Pagla Mosque received a record amount of Tk5,78,09,325 in donations.

On May 6, when the donation boxes were opened after four months due to Ramadan, Tk5,59,07,689 was found. There were various foreign coins and gold ornaments.

Apart from this, at the beginning of this year, 20 sacks of money were found when the donation boxes were opened after three months and six days on January 7.
