Two people were killed and eight others injured after a pickup van lost control and fell off the road in Austagram upazila of Kishoreganj.
Austagram Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Soaib Khan said the accident occurred at around 10:30 am on Saturday in the Zero Point area of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Nure Alam (43), son of Abdul Hamid of Bhara village under Ghagra Union in neighbouring Mithamain upazila, and Hadis Mia (55), son of Ali Hossain of Maliund village in the same union. Police could not immediately confirm the identities of the injured.
According to police and local sources, 15 to 20 people were travelling in the pickup van on Saturday morning from the Ghagra area of Mithamain to a Darbar Sharif in Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria. When the vehicle reached the Zero Point area of Austagram, the driver lost control, causing the pickup van to veer off the road and fall below.
The passengers sustained serious injuries in the accident. They were rescued and taken to Austagram Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor declared Nure Alam dead. Hadis Mia, who was critically injured, died on the way to Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital. The other injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals.
