A Jubo League activist was stabbed to death on Mujib Sarak near Jessore Pongu Hospital late on Monday, police said.
The deceased was Ripon Hossain, 26, a resident of the Kharki Koborsthan Para area of Jessore.
Witnesses said Ripon was standing in front of Pongu Hospital around 8pm when four to five people, wearing masks, arrived and chased him down with knives. They stabbed Ripon, leaving him critically injured.
Later, locals took him to Jessore General Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead upon arrival.
AKM Shafiqul Alam Chowdhury, inspector (investigation) at Kotwali police station, said they are investigating the murder.
Efforts are underway to arrest those involved in the incident, added the officer.
Meanwhile, Jessore Detective Branch took a youth named Mostak into custody for questioning.
