The Rapid Action Battalion has detained the financial coordinator and personal assistant of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) chief.
The detainee has been identified as Mohammad Ershad alias Noman Chowdhury.
He was arrested from Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya upazila on Monday, RAB-15 Commander Lt Col HM Sajjad Hossain said.
He said RAB got information that Noman was hiding inside the Rohingya camp and conducted a raid late at night. They arrested Noman when was trying to flee from the camp sensing RAB’s presence.
During primary interrogation, Noman confessed to being linked with Arsa chief Ataullah. He also served as the chief coordinator of funds sent to Arsa from the Middle East and around the world through Hundi.
Noman also said that he bought uniforms, medical supplies, walkie-talkies, land mines, and other equipment for Arsa.
The RAB official said Noman was involved in the killing of Squadron Leader Rizwan Rushdi of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) on November 14, 2022, in Bandarban.
