The Bangladesh Coast Guard on Saturday morning rescued as many as 17 fishermen after they were stranded in the Bay of Bengal for four days on an engine-damaged trawler.
Coast Guard West Zone Staff Officer Lieutenant Commander Sheikh Mezbah Uddin Ahmed confirmed the matter.
He said: "The location of the fishing trawler named FB Maa floating in the sea with 17 fishermen was identified using technology. Later, Coast Guard personnel under the Mongla Coast Guard carried out an operation and rescued the fishermen along with the trawler. Initially, they were taken to Mandarbari forest camp."
From there, they will be taken to the Coast Guard contingent in Pathorghata of Barguna.
Meanwhile, Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, who lends money to fishermen, said: “The trawler owned by Salam, with 17 fishermen on board, left Patharghata for fishing on Sunday. Two days later, the trawler experienced engine failure and was stranded in the Mandarbaria area of the Bay of Bengal.”
The 17 fishermen hail from various villages in Patharghata upazila, Barguna district.
