DU student allegedly abducted in Sajek rescued after 6hrs

A tourist who has reportedly been abducted in Sajek, located in the Baghaichari upazila of Rangamati, has been rescued after six hours. 

The abduction of Dipita Chakma, 25, a student of Dhaka University, took place around 1pm on Wednesday, said locals and the police.

Sajek Union Chairman Atulal Chakma confirmed the incident and said that she was rescued from ​Udaipur border road of Sajek.

Police, BGB and the army jointly carried out rescue operations. During the operation, one person was detained for allegedly abducting Dipita.

Meanwhile, Rangamati District Superintendent of Police Mir Abu Tauhid said that Dipita is currently with her parents. 

He said that they were being brought to Sajek police station. Legal action will be taken in this regard.

Dipita, who is currently pursuing her master's in the Department of Public Administration, is the daughter of Shitendra Bikash Chakma and hails from Khagrachhari.

Dipita was travelling to Sajek with her friends from Khagrachhari. In the afternoon, a group of unidentified armed people intercepted their vehicle in the Shijokchara area and kidnapped her.
