Fishermen were surprised to spot it in a pond owned by one Mohammad Ali Fakir on Wednesday afternoon.
Curious villagers gathered at Fakir’s house to see the fish. The fish was released in the pond after the curious crowd was treated to a close inspection of the catfish.
Narsingdi Senior Fisheries Officer Tazmahal Begum told the Dhaka Tribune it was a suckermouth catfish.
She claimed it is exotic to Bangladesh and harmful to other fish because of its carnivorous nature.
