Nahid Sultana Tripti, the chairman of Santahar union parishad in Adamdighi, Bogra, and a member of the Awami League, has been accused of disrespecting the national flag.
The incident occurred on National Mourning Day, when Tripti hoisted both the national flag and a black flag on the same stand and rope at Parishad Square. Moreover, the positioning was such that the black flag was placed above the national flag.
Adamdighi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tuktuk Talukder confirmed that Tripti raised the national and black flags on the same stand and rope and that a show-cause notice was issued to her on Wednesday.
Tripti is expected to provide a response within the next seven working days, and if a satisfactory explanation is not received, legal measures will be taken.
Additionally, Shamim Hossain, the general secretary of the municipal Awami Krishak League, alerted the authorities to the incident. In response, he was issued threats from a mobile phone number associated with Tripti. He later filed a general diary at the local police station in this regard.
Tripti, the chairman of Santahar union parishad and a member of the Adamdighi upazila Awami League, admitted to the mistake and claimed that no one within the council brought the issue to her attention during the incident.
She attributed the failure to lower the flag in a timely manner to the negligence of the guard. Tripti conveyed her regret over the matter to the upazila nirbahi officer.
Former Santahar union chairman and district Awami League Member Ashraful Islam Montu deemed the act of raising both the national and black flags on the same stand and rope as offensive and disrespectful.
Adamdighi Upazila Awami League Vice President Abu Reza Khan shared the sentiment, denouncing the act as both wrong and a legal offence.
