The power generation has increased at the Kaptai Hydroelectric Power Plant (KHPP) as the water level of Kaptai Lake in Rangamati has been rising due to continuous rainfall for the last three days.
All five units of the KHPP are currently operational, and a total of 135MW of electricity is being generated for them.
All the electricity generated at the KHPP is transmitted to the national grid.
Managing Engineer of Karnafuli Hydroelectric Power Station ATM Abduzzaher said the water level in Kaptai Lake is increasing due to the rain for the last few days.
Kaptai Lake is supposed to have 90.60 feet of mean sea level (MSL) water, but the lake now has 82.90 feet of MSL. Kaptai Lake has a water holding capacity of 109 feet MSL.
The country's only hydroelectric station had previously faced problems during the summer when water levels dropped due to heat waves.
