A couple's house in Bogra was rammed by a private car, driven allegedly by Asif Iqbal Soni, son of an MP of the ruling Awami League.
The incident took place in the district's Dhunot upazila at around 1:40am on Saturday.
The homeowners, Mofij Uddin and his wife Aleya Begum, were inside their tin shed house in the Ullapara area of the upazila at the time of the incident.
The car veered off the road and smashed into Mofij Uddin's house and damaged several items.
Mofij Uddin and his wife, Aleya Begum sustained minor injuries. They received first aid at the Sherpur Upazila Health Complex.
Asif Iqbal Soni, son of Bogra-5 MP Habibar Rahman, also the general secretary of Dhunot upazila unit Awami League was travelling along with Mohsin Alam, joint general secretary and vice chairman of the upazila parishad.
Allegations have been made that Soni was driving the car in an intoxicated state.
However, Asif Iqbal Soni denied the allegations and claimed that the accident was due to an unexpected tyre burst and that their driver, Nazmul, was behind the wheel.
He also said the accusations were politically motivated.
Dhunot police station Officer-in-Charge Rabiul Islam also said that driver Nazmul was driving the car during the accident.
“Actions will be taken if a case is filed,” he added.
