Coast guard stops robbery in progress on vessel in Bay of Bengal, 43 arrested

Bangladesh Coast Guard says it has arrested 43 people during a robbery in progress on a vessel in the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday.
The incident took place around 12:10am, about 37 nautical miles from Cox's Bazar lighthouse, in a vessel named “MV LADINDA”.
As of yet, none of the detainees have been identified. However, they all hail from different upazilas of Chittagong and Cox's Bazar.
Coast Guard officials have also seized two engine-driven boats from the robbers during the drive.
Lt Commander Khandaker Munif Taki, media officer of Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters said a Coast Guard patrol ship Mansur Ali rushed to the location following a complaint from AHZ shipping agent.
A number of looted items including berthing hawsers, steel wire rope were recovered during the operation.
Meanwhile, Captain Kazi Shah Alam, zonal commander of Bangladesh Coast Guard East Zone said during the primary interrogation, the looters claimed a number of officers, employees, and shipping agents gave information about the ship's location in the deep sea.
“It's a kind of network. The crew of the ship is involved in this robbery,” the captain added.
Once the robbers are handed over to the Patenga police station, a case will be filed against them.
