The Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) has initiated a Tk1.97 crore project to curb the ongoing coastal erosion at Kuakata beach, known as the Sagar Kannya (Daughter of the Sea).
The state-funded endeavour has been launched swiftly, with the hope of offering long-term protection to this key seaside location.
Khalid Bin Walid, the executive engineer of the BWDB's Kalapara region, explained that this initiative was taken to protect Kuakata beach from the continuous erosion caused by unceasing sea waves.
He hoped that by providing four lines of protection using geo bags along the seashore, the beach will remain secure.
Natural Construction, a contracted firm, has been commissioned to bring this project to fruition, he reported.
Sources reveal that for the purpose of coastal protection, 23,000 geo bags and tubes will be utilized across a total span of 1,100 metres, extending 900 metres east and 200 metres west from the zero point of the beach.
Locals believe that this long-term protection measure, involving the placement of geo bags along the beach embankment, will prove effective.
