President Mohammed Shahabuddin has said there is no scope for an unelected government in Bangladesh and the Election Commission, an independent body, will conduct impartial polls in accordance with the constitution.
A Supreme Court also annulled the provision for an unelected government, he said at a public gathering while visiting Pabna Diabetic Samity on Wednesday afternoon.
The president called on political parties to come together through dialogue rather than creating conflict in the name of politics.
Dhaka TribuneExpressing gratitude for the warm love and admiration from the people of Pabna, where he is on a four-day visit, the president said that there was once no bridge over the Jamuna River in Pabna due to regional political influences.
If the government's ongoing development efforts continue, all the demands of the people of Pabna will be met in the future, he added.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin is currently on a visit to his home district, Pabna. The head of state arrived in the district on Monday and is expected to depart for Dhaka on Thursday.
This is his first visit since taking office as the 22nd president of the country in April.
