MP's assistant goes live on Facebook in SSC exam hall, draws criticism

Students and other officials complain that the noise and commotion of the inspection group reportedly disrupted their concentration

A Facebook live session during the SSC and equivalent exam in an examination centre in Feni, conducted by the personal secretary of Lt Gen (Retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, MP for Feni-3 (Sonagazi-Daganbhuiyan) constituency, has caused a controversy in the area.

Shahadat Hossain Bhuiyan, the MP's personal secretary, went live on his own Facebook profile around 11am on Sunday, capturing a 14-minute video of the MP's inspection of the Bakhter Munshi Fazil Madrasah examination center in Sonagazi upazila of Feni.

During the live video, the MP was seen accompanied by administrative officers and a crowd of people.

The noise and commotion of the group reportedly disrupted the examinees' concentration, according to students and other officials.

Sonagazi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) said he has heard about the live video and the MP has also been informed.

"I do not know why Shahadat Hossain conducted the live session, but everyone has been cautioned to be careful in the future to prevent such incidents," he added.

Upazila Education Officer Nurul Amin stated that local MPs can inspect examination rooms, but entering the centres with party affiliations violates the rules, as it can create problems for the examinees' focus.

According to the rules, only examination-related individuals are allowed to enter the centres and any use of mobile phones are prohibited.

However, Shahadat Hossain Bhuiyan explained that the video was not a serious matter and had been broadcast by mistake.

He later removed the video from his Facebook account and requested that people view the incident with leniency.

Despite multiple attempts to reach Lt General (Retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury for comment on this matter, he did not answer any calls made by this correspondent.
