4 killed as bus hits auto-rickshaw, van in Tangail

Four passengers, including two seventh-grade students, died in a bus accident in Dhanbari upazila of Tangail.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon in the Baghil area of the upazila, leaving two more people injured.

The deceased are Rashmi and Bithi, seventh-grade students of Baghil High School, Mostafa from Hadira union of Gopalpur upazila, and Hakim from Norilla Baghil area.

Following the accident, agitated locals blocked the Tangail-Jamalpur road in protest.

Confirming the news, Dhanbari police station Officer-in-Charge HM Jasim Uddin said a Dhaka-bound TS Paribahan bus collided with an auto-rickshaw and a van on the Tangail-Jamalpur road.

Two passengers of the auto-rickshaw died on the spot, and four others sustained injuries. Among the injured, one succumbed to their injuries while being taken to Madhupur Upazila Health Complex, and another passed away on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, the OC said.

Authorities are in the process of transporting the vehicles involved in the accident, including the auto-rickshaw and the van, to the police station, he added.
