At least eight people were killed and 21 others injured in separate road crashes on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway and in Dinajpur on Thursday.
In Munshiganj, four people were killed when a bus full of passengers rammed into a stationary truck from behind on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in the morning. At least 18 people were injured in the accident.
Molla Zakir Hossain, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Hasara Highway police station, said the accident took place around 9am in the Sholghar cemetery area of Munshiganj's Srinagar. A Shariatpur-bound bus of Padma Travels hit the truck from behind.
Two persons died on the spot and their bodies were handed over to their relatives. The injured were taken to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex where two others succumbed to their injuries.
Out of the 18 injured, four have been sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
Meanwhile, four members of a family were killed and three others were injured as a bus crashed into a human hauler in Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur on Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as Arnab, 7, Apurba, 10, Pallabi, 32 and Uttam, 35.
Bazlur Rashid, OC of Chirirbandar police station, said that the passenger bus hit the human hauler while the family was going to Dinajpur sadar upazila from Nawabganj upazila, leaving two dead on the spot and five others critically injured. Among the injured, two others died on the way to hospital.
