Fire at cold storage facility in Chittagong under control

The fire led to an explosion injuring four people

A fire that broke out at a cold storage facility in the Bakalia area of Chittagong has been brought under control. 

The incident, which occurred at around 1:05am on Wednesday, led to an explosion that injured four people. 

Upon receiving the news, seven firefighting units promptly responded to the fire and managed to tame it.

Chittagong Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Abdul Hamid Mia said the fire broke out at a dry fish cold storage facility named Haji Janata Cold Storage, located in the Rajakhali area under Bakalia police station. 

The injured were rescued and admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), he added. 

The injured are Md Tarek, 28, Nur Hossain, Md Mannan, 34, and Robin 22, confirmed CMCH police outpost in-charge Sub-Inspector Nur Ullah Ashek.

Among them, two are said to be in critical condition, according to the doctors.

Bakalia police station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rahim said the explosion, followed by the fire, spread the cold storage facility's gas throughout the area, causing smoke and foul stench. 

The fire service later said it will form a panel to investigate the cause of the fire.
