A teenager died while undergoing treatment at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital on Friday morning after being beaten up by three friends in a dispute over bursting firecrackers.
The deceased is Ramzan Ali Bepari, 14, son of Badal Bepari, resident of Lutfor Rahman Road in Barisal and a battery-operated rickshaw driver by profession.
Lokman Hossain, inspector (investigation) of Airport police station of Barisal Metropolitan Police, said that police arrested two teenagers in connection to the murder.
On Thursday night, he was beaten up behind Hazera Khatun School on Lutfor Rahman Road under Airport police station in the city.
Meanwhile, his father Badal Bepari filed a case at the Airport police station accusing Rifat, Nayan and Hriday in connection with the murder of Ramzan.
Police Inspector Lokman said, after the incident, members of Kaunia police station of Barisal Metropolitan arrested Nayan Howladar, 12, and Rifat Howladar, 14, and handed them over to them.
Police sources said that there was a clash between the arrested two with Ramzan and another teenager named Hriday for bursting firecrackers in the sand field behind Hazera Khatun School.
They beat Ramzan punching him in the head and kicking him in the stomach. When Ramzan fell ill, he was rescued by locals and given first aid.
Over time, Ramzan's condition worsened and he was admitted to the ICU of Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital on Friday morning where he died after about half an hour of treatment.
The body has been sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem. The cause of death can be confirmed once the post-mortem report is received, police sources added.
Airport police station Sub Inspector (SI) Mehdi Hasan said that Ramzan had injuries on his head and left ear. It is believed that the punches caused the death due to bleeding in the brain.
