Six activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir were detained while trying to bring out a procession in the port city's Chaktai area on Saturday.
The detainees are Md Salim, 53, Md Farooq Hossain, 51, Ishtiaq Haider, 32, Md Abu Yusuf Siddiqui, 32, Zainul Abedin, 57, and Md Sanaullah, 51.
Police detained the Jamaat-Shibir men when they were about to bring out a procession in front of Bhera Market around 8am, Abdur Rahim, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bakalia police station.
The detainees are being interrogated. Legal action will be taken against them, the OC added.
