Awami League activist killed in Magura

A case will be filed in this connection, police say

An Awami League activist has been killed in an alleged attack by his political opponents over previous enmity in Srirampur village of Magura Sadar upazila. 

The deceased was identified as Zayed Zoadder, son of Moshiar Zoadder in Hajipur union of Sadar upazila. He was a member of Ward No 3 unit of Hajipur union Awami League.

The incident took place on Saturday afternoon when Zayed was attacked by supporters of Hajipur Union BNP Vice President Arju Molla and member of Hajipur Union Parishad Tahajjad Hossain.

Hajipur Union Parishad Chairman Muzaharul Haque said: "Zayed had a dispute with Arju Molla and Tahajjad Hossain for a long time. On Saturday, the assailants attacked Zayed when he was working on his field.”

Locals rescused Zayed and admitted him to Magura Sadar Hospital at first. Later, he was sent to Dhaka when his physical condition deteriorated at night. 

He died early Sunday on his way to Dhaka, said Muzaharul.

Magura Sadar Hospital duty doctor Ehsanul Haque Masum said: "Zayed was admitted in critical condition. We referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after administering primary treatment.”

Magura Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman said a case will be filed in this connection.

Police have been deployed in the area to bring the situation under control, he added.
