An investigation was launched on Sunday after receiving written complaints from journalists on the assaults by Assistant Land Officer Sanaul Islam in Jamalpur's Melandah Upazila over bribery, corruption, and irregularities.
Melandah Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Zohra Sultana Juthi conducted a hearing and took written statements of the three journalists and the accused at the land office around 11:30am.
One of the victims, journalist Rakib Hasan Nayan, said: “We were summoned. We gave written statements, and audio and video documentation of the occurrence.”
Sakib Al Hasan Nahid, another victim journalist, said: “Sanaul got angry because of being questioned about bribery and threw us out of the office.”
In this regard, Jamalpur Deputy Commissioner Srabasti Roy said that the incident was under investigation.
“I will take necessary measures as soon as I get the investigation report,” she added.
On January 25, the accused was asked about the allegations of bribery, corruption and misconduct against him. He got enraged and assaulted the journalists.
Following the assault, on the same day, the three journalists gave a written complaint to the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO).
