Jamuna fertilizer resumes production after 6-month shutdown

The production of ammonia and urea fertilizer was halted due to gas crisis

Jamuna fertilizer factory (JFCL), the country's largest urea producer at Sarishabari's Tarakandi in Jamalpur, has resumed production of fertilizer following a six-month halt due to a gas crisis.

Urea production started around 7.30pm on Tuesday, said Mohammad Sahidullah Khan, managing director of Jamuna Fertilizer Company Ltd. 

Before this, gas connection was activated in the factory from December 11. Ammonia production started on Monday, he said. 

The pressure of gas is about 200 to 220 pounds per square inch - the normal level, according to the official. 

On June 21 this year, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited suspended gas supply to Jamuna fertilizer factory due to what the production of ammonia and urea fertilizer was halted. 

Established in 1990, the factory produces 1,700 tons of urea every day. This fertilizer is supplied to 20 northern districts.
