Another Bangladeshi was critically injured

Update : 20 Dec 2022, 09:54 AM

A Bangladeshi man was gunned down by members of Border Security Force (BSF) on the Indian side of the border in Chapainawabganj district, claimed family.

The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Shamim, a resident of the district's Shibganj upazila.

Besides, another Bangladeshi man, Shariful Islam, was also critically injured in the firing, reports Bangla Tribune.

The incident was reported from the district's Jhurpur border area.

Shamim's family claimed that he went out with some of his friends on Sunday evening, and did not come back home after that.

Later, they were informed by some cattle traders that Shamim was shot dead by BSF inside the Indian territory.

“My son never tried to enter India. He suddenly went out yesterday (Sunday) and did not come back home. I was told my son died in BSF firing along the border,” said Shamim's mother, Serina Begum.

Local resident Mazharul Islam said that some 10-12 shepherds went to India to bring cows.

“They crossed the Bangladesh border and tried to cross the Maragang River near the BSF's Chandni Chawk camp, two kilometers inside India. Shamim was shot and killed on the spot by BSF and Shariful Islam was seriously injured,” he added.

In this regard, Commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)-53 Lt Col Nahid Hossain said they have heard about the matter. “Our members are working. Action will be taken if we receive confirmation.”

The official also said BGB did not receive any complaints from the victim's family yet.
