A man and his daughter, hailing from Ghatail upazila of Tangail, have passed this year's SSC exams, creating a buzz in the area.

Zainal Abedin, 44, a businessman by profession, told Dhaka Tribune recently that he had taken his SSC (vocational) exams from Chala Fajarganj Alim Madrasa.

He obtained a grade point average of 4.86 out of 5, while his older daughter, Jasmine, a humanities student at Chala Chhaked Ali High School and College, secured a 3.33 GPA.

But all is not well at home as his younger daughter, Asia, failed to clear the exams.

Jasmine said her father could do well in the exams because of his indomitable willpower.

Zainal Abedin said he was an SSC candidate in 1996 but could not take the tests as he had to look after his family.

“But not being able to continue my studies often tormented me. In 2020, I finally resumed my studies as a ninth-grader.”

Chala Fajarganj Alim Madrasa Principal Maulana Abdur Quader said Zainal had proved that age was no barrier when it came to education, becoming an inspiration for many others.
