A man was killed and another was injured in a shooting in Baghaichari upazila of Rangamati on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was Sukhen Chakma.
The injured, Sajib Chakma, was rescued and rushed to a local hospital by locals.
According to the police and local residents, both the deceased and the injured used to share rides on their motorcycles.
They were cousins and supporters of the local organization Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS), locals said.
Tridip Chakma, organizing secretary of JSS Baghaichari upazila unit, blamed United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) for the incident.
Meanwhile, Argent Chakma, regional coordinator of Sajek UPDF said his party had nothing to do with the shooting and claimed it was not active in the area where the incident had taken place.
Rangamati Additional Superintendent of Police Mahmuda Begum said: “We have heard that one person was killed and another was injured in a shooting. Police rushed to the area upon receiving the information.”
“Surveillance in these areas has been increased,” she added.
