Headmaster gets life in prison for raping student in Rangamati

The rape case was filed on October 5, 2020 with Langadu police station after the convicted teacher raped the student inside the dormitory of a high school

A Rangamati court on Tuesday has sentenced a headmaster to life in prison for raping a student in Langadu upazila of the district two years ago. 

Rangamati Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge AEM Ismail handed down the verdict. 

The convict, Md Abdur Rahim, was a headmaster of Karallya Chary RS High School in the Langadu upazila. 

The court also fined  him Tk10 lakh,by default, he has to serve another three years imprisonment.

The verdict also mentioned that if Abdur Rahim fails to pay the fine within the next 90 days, the movable of immovable property owned by him will be auctioned as per the state law.

Abdur Rahim was convicted of an offense punishable under Section 9(1) of the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act, 2000.

According to the documents to the case, the rape survivor's mother filed the rape case against Abdur Rahman on October 5, 2020. 

According to the verdict, Abdur Rahim threatened and raped the student inside the dormitory of the high school. 

Advocate Rajeev Chakma, the lawyer of the plaintiff, said he was happy with the judgment. 

State counsel (PP) Saiful Islam Abhi said: “We are satisfied with the verdict. We have been able to prove the case.”
