A suspected robber sustained a bullet injury in a reported gunfight with members of Detective Branch (DB) of police.
The incident took place in Kakiarchar of Burichong upazila early Tuesday when a group of robbers attempted to loot the police vehicle.
The injured is Abu Yusuf, 29, son of Abdur Razzak, a resident of Halgaon village of the upazila, Rajesh Barua, officer-in-charge of Comilla DB police, confirmed the matter.
The OC said that when their vehicle bound to Nimsar from Kanshanagar reached Kakiarchar area, suddenly they heard a sound of an explosion of wheels and the driver stopped the vehicle.
As soon as the car stopped, seven or eight armed men surrounded their car coming from the roadside paddy fields, said the DB official.
Later, the robber gang opened fire when they saw the police wearing DB jackets.
Then the DB police fired back. At one stage, the bandits fled, said the officer.
Hearing the sound of gunshots and the sound of police whistles, local people came to the spot.
Later local people and DB police searched the paddy fields and empty places and found a robber with bullet wounds and immediately sent him to the hospital for treatment.
The injured robber is undergoing treatment at Comilla Medical College Hospital.
