Hospital staff sexually assaults teenager admitted in ICU

Hospital authorities say the ICU ward has no CCTV cameras

Update : 21 Nov 2022, 01:40 PM

A 17-year-old college student, who was admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a private hospital in Comilla, has been allegedly sexually assaulted by one of the ward boys of the facility.

The incident took place at Comilla Medical Centre Hospital also known as Tower Hospital on Friday.

The sexual assault has led to the patient's mental health deteriorating, and she was later admitted to another private hospital in the district, her family claimed.

Meanwhile, the accused ward boy Deepak Chandra Das has been fired from the hospital after the incident came to light.

The hospital authorities said they have also sent show-cause notices to the doctors and nurses who were in the ICU duty that day.

Meanwhile, on Sunday evening, the teenager's elder brother demanded justice by describing the incident in a video on Facebook.

In the seven-minute video, he said that when they informed the hospital authorities about the sexual violation, they did not pay attention to their side.

“They acted like these sorts of incidents take place every day, but we were the only ones to complain about it,” he added.

Later he noted that Deepak had been working at the hospital since 2013, so there is a chance he has also assaulted several others.

When the Director of Comilla Medical Centre Nooruddin Mazumdar was contacted, he said: "I cannot say anything about the matter. Talk to Managing Director Jahangir Hossain.”

Jahangir Hossain said that the ward boy was suspended from the hospital after the incident.

He added that the hospital has no CCTV cameras inside the ICU wards.
