A fifth-grader's eardrum was ruptured after a teacher allegedly slapped her in Jessore.
Assistant Teacher Nargis Parveen of Jessore's Bahilapota Govt Primary School of Chowgacha upazila of Jessore slapped Panna Khatun. As a result, her eardrum was ruptured.
According to sources, the incident happened on Sunday during school hours, but the matter came to light on Tuesday. However, on Monday night, the girl's mother had complained about this to the upazila education officer over phone.
On Tuesday, the student's mother filed a written complaint to the Jessore district commissioner. A copy of the complaint has been given to the district primary education officer, Chowgacha upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) and upazila education officer.
Upazila Education Officer Mostafizur Rahman went to the school after receiving the complaint and found the incident to be true. Students of classes V and IV and their parents complained to the education officials that two assistant teachers of the school, Aslam Hussain and Nargis Parveen, beat students for no reason and abuse them in vulgar language.
The complaint said that on Monday evening, the student had a fever and pain in the ear. When asked about her condition, she told everything. The next morning, when she was taken to the local upazila health complex, Dr Akib Hossain said that her eardrum might have ruptured. Water has accumulated there and an operation is required.
Upazila Primary Education Officer Mostafizur Rahman said that the matter has been proven in the primary investigation. The inquiry report will be sent to the district education officer. Upazila Narbahi Officer Irufa Sultana echoed Mostafizur Rahman's statement.
