Autopsy done on Munshiganj cat that was allegedly beaten to death

On Sunday, a teenage girl went to her local police station with her dead cat seeking justice

The autopsy of a pet cat which was allegedly beaten to death has been completed in Munshiganj.

Four days after the death, the autopsy of the cat was conducted at the Upazila Livestock Department and Veterinary Hospital in Munshiganj on Thursday afternoon.

Sirajdikhan Upazila Livestock Officer Shabnam Sultana performed the postmortem on the cat. She said the autopsy was conducted in the presence of police and journalists and no sign of injury was found in its body.

She added: “However, we do not deal with issues of poisoning. The Institute of Public Health can be reached in this regard.”

Sirajdikhan police station Sub-Inspector Kamrul said: “The internal organs (viscera) will be taken to Dhaka. Once the report is received from there it will be clear if the cat was killed or died a natural death.”

Earlier, Sunday, a girl named Acchia Akhtar, 13, went to the police station with her dead cat in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj, seeking justice for the death of her cat.

She said her cat was killed over some land-related dispute.

Later, her mother, Akalima Akhter, filed a complaint at the police station in this connection.
