A student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) has been reportedly beaten up by a restaurant waiter.
The student was identified as Noor Mohamamd Chashal, a first year student of the Department of Sociology of the University.
The incident took place on Wednesday around 7:30pm at the Sobuj Bangla restaurant, located near the main gate of the university.
Following the incident, university students vandalized and closed down the restaurant.
According to eyewitnesses, a waiter beat up the student when he was eating at the restaurant.
Sust Proctor Ishrat Ibne Ismail said: "We are trying to resolve the matter. The police administration has also reached the spot. The police have locked the gate of the restaurant. We will sit with the restaurant owner, manager and hotel boy who beat out student.”
Jalalabad police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Nazmul Huda Khan said the restaurant has been closed for the time being. Legal actions will be taken according to the decision taken by the restaurant owners and the university administration.
