Decomposed bodies of elderly couple recovered in Lakshmipur

As bad odour was coming out from the room of the couple, locals informed police

Police recovered the decomposed bodies of an elderly couple from a locked room at Shakchar village in sadar upazila on Monday night.

The deceased have been identified as  Abu Siddik, 73, and his wife Atorer Nesa, 65, said Md Mahfuzzaman Ashraf, superintendent of Lakshmipur police.

As a bad odour was coming out from the room of the couple, locals informed the police. Later, police recovered the bodies around 9pm breaking the door, reports Bangla Tribune.

Siddik’s nephew Abdul Hannan, said that his uncle used to live in Abu Dhabi. They had no children. But there is a foster son named Abdur Rahim. 

After getting married, he lived with his in-laws', but for a few years, the relationship between them was not going well, he added.

Mahfuzur Rahman, chairman of Shakchar Union Parishad, said: "The decomposed bodies of the old couple was found on the bed of the house. Primarily, it was presumed as murder.”

The SP said that the gate of their building was locked and the door was locked from the inside. But the roof door was open.

“We are now checking whether anything has gone missing from the house,” said the SP. 

Police suspect that the couple may have been strangled to death some four or five days ago. 

A team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) collected evidence from the spot.
