A case has been filed against three people, including Bogra’s Dupchanchia Municipality Mayor Jahangir Alam, on the charge of delaying corruption charges against him by ten years through forging High Court order documents.

The other two sued in the case are Kartik Chandra Das, a municipal secretary, and Abdul Majid, an apprentice lawyer.

Superintendent of Writ Branch at the High Court Abdul Momen filed the case with the Senior Special Judge Court of Bogra on Thursday afternoon.

According to the court sources, in 2007, when Jahangir Alam was the then mayor of Dupchanchia Municipality and Kartik Chandra Das was the then secretary, there were allegations of embezzlement of a huge amount of money against the duo.

The then acting mayor Belal Hossain filed a case of embezzlement of Tk13 lakh against them on October 23 of the same year. Later, the case was transferred to ACC Bogra Integrated Office.

Jahangir Alam had appealed to the High Court to quash the case, but his plea was rejected.

However, the High Court issued a stay order on the case and the accused submitted documents to a Bogra court on December 8, 2010. Since then, the case was suspended for 10 years.

Later, the lawyers of the ACC Dhaka office found out that the documents Jahangir produced was not related to the Dupchanchiya case. The public prosecutor reported the matter to the Senior Special Judge Court of Bogra.

According to sources, the ACC is likely to be tasked to investigate the case.
