Cox’s Bazar swamped with tourists enjoying 5-day holiday

The majority of hotels have stopped taking advance bookings

Cox’s Bazar beaches have been swapmed with tourists enjoying the five-day holiday on the occasion of Durga Puja, Eid-e-Miladunnabi, and two days off this weekend.

Due to the rush, owners have already stopped advance room bookings for local hotels, motels, and resorts.

Beach workers said that at least 200,000 people are now at Cox’s Bazar enjoying this holiday. 

According to this year's public holiday list, this Wednesday was a general holiday for Durga Puja. The offices will open the following day on Thursday, but Friday and Saturday are weekends. The next day (Sunday) is Eid-e-Miladunnabi.

Both government and private offices are set to resume work on October 10.

Apart from the holidays, local businessmen said the recent fairs, beach carnival, special discounts have also made an impact on why so many people are vising the beach city. 

They are expecting an additional 500,000 people to visit the tourist city in the next 10 days.

In this regard, Raihan Uddin, member secretary of Cox's Bazar Beach Management Committee, said they are arranging more facilities for the tourists, apart from the ones they are getting from the carnival. 

There are some 500 hotels, motels, and resorts between Cox's Bazar city and Marine Drive road. 

The President of this organization, Abul Kashem Sikder, said that most of the rooms in those residential hotels have been booked till Thursday. 

He also mentioned that they are not taking advance bookings anymore.

Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police Assistant Superintendent of Police Chowdhury Mijanuzzaman said that the force is trying its best to provide security for the tourists. 

Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner Md Mamunur Rashid Balam said the district administration is working with the stakeholders to provide safety, better facilities, and services for the tourists. 

Besides, beach workers are working also working under the leadership of a full-time executive magistrate to guide the tourists.

Previously on World Tourism Day, owners of hotels and motels in Cox’s Bazar were offering special discounts to tourists. 

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Cox's Bazar Mohammad Abu Sufian said the Hotel-Motel Owners Association had announced 25-70% discounts on residential hotels during a seven-day fair organized by the Cox's Bazar district administration and Beach Management Committee to celebrate the day. 

A beach carnival was also arranged at Cox’s Bazar’s Laboni Point.
