RU student’s hanging body recovered in Dhaka

She used to live in a rented house in Mugda with her husband.

Police recovered the hanging body of a female student of Rajshahi University (RU) from the Mugda area in the capital.

The deceased was identified as Chanda Roy, hailing from Thakurgaon district and the student of 2015-16 session of Economics department of RU. 

She used to live in a rented house in Mugda with her husband. 

Police recovered the body from their rented house around 12pm on Monday and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College hospital morgue for an autopsy. 

According to the sources of her department, Chanda got married three months ago. Her husband is a Bangladesh Bank official. 

She reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her room at 12pm on Monday, according to the sources. 

Her husband is currently in police custody. 

Expressing profound shock over the incident, Prof Md Farid Uddin Khan of RU said: "We cannot accept the news of death. She just got married three months ago. We have no idea what happened to her.”

 “Society, family and her husband are responsible for her death. We demand fair investigation and trial,” he added.

Mugda police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jamal Uddin Mir said: "We immediately went to the spot after receiving the information. We recovered the hanging body of Chanda." 

He said police found a note at the scene that read: "I am responsible for my death."

OC Jamal Uddin said whether it was murder or suicide, it will be cleared after seeing the autopsy report. "We have already sent the body to the morgue for autopsy. Hopefully. we will get the report soon."
