An unnatural death of a 25-year-old student, identified as Saurav Halder, has been reported in a rented flat in the Rayerbazar area of the capital. He was a final-year student at a private university in Dhaka. The incident occurred at around 5:30pm on Friday.
The deceased’s aunt, Ranjita Mondal, said Saurav became ill and started vomiting after allegedly consuming a toxic substance inside the house without anyone noticing. He was later rescued and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 7:30pm, where doctors declared him dead.
She further said that Saurav had been in a depressed state following the death of a female friend from cancer a few months earlier. Family members suspect that he may have taken his own life due to depression.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue and the matter has been informed to the concerned police station.
Saurav was the son of farmer Amol Halder from Bhimruli village in Jhalokathi Sadar upazila. He had been living in a rented flat in Rayerbazar with his sister. He was the second of four siblings—two brothers and two sisters.
