The government will install 555 Joy Digital Service Employment and Training Centres or Joy D-Set Centres across Bangladesh to upskill the youth at the grassroots.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had already approved the construction process of the centres aimed at creating employment opportunities for the youth, State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak said at an event on Tuesday.
The state minister will lay the foundation stone of the first Joy D-Set Centre, to be constructed in Dinajpur Sadar upazila. The construction work will start on September 18.
The 555 centres will be built under the Establishing Digital Connectivity (EDC) project of the ICT Division.
Speaking at a seminar on “Role of Establishing Digital Connectivity (EDC) Project in the Advancement of Smart Bangladesh”, ICT Division Senior Secretary NM Zeaul Alam said the Joy-D-Set Centres would play a part in achieving Vision 2041, as envisaged by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
EDC Project Director Dr Khandoker Azizul Islam said unemployed people would be trained up on information and communications technology at the centres so they could get jobs at home and abroad.
