A police constable was sent to jail on Friday in a case filed for raping a woman in Barisal.
Arrestee Kawsar Ahmed, hailing from Amrajhudi village of Barguna, served as a constable at Barisal district police, said Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azimul Karim.
“He was produced before the court on Friday afternoon after his arrest on Thursday. Meanwhile, the victim has been sent to One Stop Crisis Centre of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for medical test,” said the OC.
According to police, Kawsar lived in a flat with his wife and one child in the South Alekanda Bookvila Goli of the city.
He had a long-term love affair with the house owner’s daughter. At one point, he raped the woman by showing the temptation of marriage and then the woman became pregnant.
When the woman proposed Kawsar to marry her after the matter of pregnancy came to light around two months ago, the constable refused.
On Thursday, the woman asked Kawsar to meet her on the bank of the Kirtankhola river at the Tris Godown area. There he had a long discussion with the relatives of the woman.
At one stage, he tried to escape by jumping into the river.
However, the relatives of the woman detained him with the help of local people and handed him over to the Kotwali police station.
