An officer-in-charge (OC) of Muradnagar police station in Comilla has been removed from service after the deputy inspector general (DIG) of the Chittagong Range became stranded in a significant traffic jam.
DIG Mohammad Anwar Hossain was travelling to Brahmanbaria via the Companiganj area on the Comilla-Sylhet regional route when he was stopped for 30 minutes in a backup outside the Companiganj bus terminal on Saturday morning.
Later, he informed the Comilla superintendent of police (SP) of the situation.
The withdrawn OC, Abdul Hasim, was assigned to the Chittagong Range DIG office control room till further orders, according to a letter signed by the SP.
When asked about the matter, the OC told the media that he was unaware that the DIG would go by that road on the way to Brahmanbaria in the morning.
“Additionally, the highway police and traffic police were working to clear the roadway of traffic, but if I had known, I would have done the same,” he added.
He reportedly left the Muradnagar police station after being given the go-ahead to leave his current position.
