20 injured in Awami League-BNP clash in Feni

Three people have been detained so far in the incident

At least 20 people were injured in a clash between leaders and activists of Awami League and BNP in Feni on Friday.

According to witnesses, BNP brought out a rally protesting the latest hike in fuel price and power crisis in the city’s Trunk Road from Islam Road at around 3:30pm.

At that point, Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League leaders attacked them, injuring at least 20 people, reports UNB.

Later, police fired 20 rounds of blank and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.

So far, three people have been detained in connection with the incident, said Nizam  Uddin, officer-in-charge of Feni Model police station.

In this regard, District Bangladesh Chhatra League President Tofail Ahmad Tapu claimed that BNP leaders attacked his party first when they were staging the protest rally.

Meanwhile, Alal Uddin Alal, member secretary of District BNP, blamed Awami League for the incident and demanded exemplary punishment.

Additional police have been deployed at different parts of the city to avoid further untoward incidents.
